Toka Ebisu Shrine
A Shrine Loved in Hakata with a History of 400 Years
Tokae Ebisu Shrine, located in Hakata Ward, Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture, enshrines Ebisu, the deity of prosperous business, and Daikoku, associated with matchmaking and good fortune, and carries a history spanning more than 430 years. During the annual "Shogatsu Taisai" held January 8–11, more than one million visitors from across Japan gather at the shrine, seeking distinctive good-luck items unique to this site, including sea bream–shaped omikuji fortunes and ema votive plaques. In October, the experiential cultural festival "Daikoku Festival" brings together special goshuin stamps, traditional craft workshops, and dedication events by contemporary calligraphy artists active throughout Kyushu and Fukuoka, creating a lively program for both children and adults.
