Takayama Inari Shrine
The Vermilion Path Connecting Gods and People: "Senbon Torii"
Located in Tsugaru City, Aomori, this shrine is revered for blessings of abundant harvests, maritime safety, and prosperous business, with a long-standing connection to Inari Okami and particular significance in 2026, the Year of the Horse. The offering of "Senbon Torii," begun in 1980, has been restored as part of a commemorative project for the Reiwa imperial ceremonies and now numbers more than 270 gates. The harmony between seasonal landscapes and the "Senbon Torii" creates a striking setting that draws visitors, especially during the Golden Week period in May, when double-flowered cherry blossoms reach full bloom, and drifting petals contrast with the vermilion gates. Overnight stays are available at the assembly hall for worshippers receiving prayers.

It is said that kokeshi dolls were first created when woodworkers who made bowls and other items began making wooden dolls with painted faces and patterns as souvenirs for children to sell to visitors to hot springs.
