Takayama Inari Shrine

Vermilion Path of "Senbon Torii" Leading to the Divine

Located in Tsugaru City, Aomori Prefecture, this revered shrine is dedicated to deities of bountiful harvests, maritime safety, and prosperity. The harmonious scenery created by the surrounding seasonal landscapes and the striking "Senbon Torii (a thousand torii gates)" captivates visitors throughout the year. The dedication of the torii gates began in 1980 and was refurbished as part of the Reiwa Enthronement Commemoration Project, resulting in more than 270 gates standing today. From late November to late March, the vivid vermilion torii set against pure white snow creates a breathtakingly mystical winter scene. During the colder months, proper footwear and warm clothing are essential. Visitors receiving shrine rites may also stay overnight in the Sanshū-den hall.
