Amanosan Kongo-ji Temple
A Majestic Ancient Temple That Weaves History
Amanosan Kongo-ji Temple is located in Kawachinagano City, Osaka, and boasts a history of approximately 1,300 years. It is said to have been founded by Gyoki during the Nara period, with Dainichi Nyorai as its principal deity. The teachings of Kobo Daishi Kukai, the temple’s spiritual founder, continue to be passed down. In the past, the temple served as a place of prayer for Hachijo Nyoin, the younger sister of Emperor Go-Shirakawa. As it accepted female worshippers even during periods when women were generally prohibited from entering sacred sites, it became known as "Nyonin Koya" (Women's Koya). Within the temple grounds, there are five National Treasures, including the three main Buddha statues in Kondo Hall, as well as 29 Important Cultural Properties. The site also features historically significant structures such as the Tahoto Pagoda, Gobutsudo Hall, and Mieido Hall. Surrounded by breathtaking nature, the temple offers a serene atmosphere that changes beautifully with the seasons.
