An ancient temple connected to Emperor Shomu that boasts a 1,300-year history

Godaisan Chikurin-ji Temple in Kochi City, Kochi Prefecture was founded in 724 by the monk Gyoki on the orders of Emperor Shomu, who likened it to Godaisan in the Tang Dynasty. It is the 31st temple of the famous Shikoku Sacred Site, whose principal image is Manjushri Bodhisattva. Adjacent to the Kochi Prefectural Makino Botanical Garden, it holds many events in addition to experiences such as sutra copying and meditation, and continues to engage in activities that are close to people living today.

Enjoy a Moment of Peace With Sutra Copying and Meditation Experience

The temple experience at Chikurin-ji Temple involves sitting with your posture straight facing the beautiful garden, meditating to calm your mind, and sutra copying to keep the Buddha's heart in your heart, which we recommend you do together. I want to change my mind and feel a moment of peace by facing the written word in an extraordinary space and coming into contact with Buddhism to create memories of my trip.
