Timeless Japanese and Western Sweets from a Kochi Favourite with Over 70 Years of History
"Hamako Harimaya Flagship Store" is a Japanese and Western confectionery shop with its flagship store located next to the bright vermilion "Harimaya Bridge". Founded in 1952, it has produced many famous sweets such as "Tosa Meika Kanzashi" and "Shirabana Sendan." "Tosa Meika Kanzashi," named after Kochi's representative folk song "Yosakoi Bushi", is Japan's first foil-baked confectionery, made of yuzu-scented white bean paste wrapped in madeleine-style dough, and is a representative product of Kochi Prefecture. Driven by a wish to share the charm of their hometown through sweets, to evoke the beauty of Japan’s often-forgotten seasonal sensibilities, and to contribute to the local community, the team continues to develop new products each day.

A Classic Souvenir From Kochi: Tosa's Famous Kanzashi Confectionery
This confection is inspired by the love story between Junshin and Ouma, which appears in the folk song "Yosakoi Bushi". White bean paste with the scent of yuzu, a specialty of Kochi Prefecture, is wrapped in soft madeleine dough and baked in silver paper. Unwrapping the silver paper reveals a hairpin design inspired by the famous song, adding a playful touch. This confection has become a signature delicacy representing Kochi Prefecture.

The Main Store Is Located Next to the Tourist Spot "Harimayabashi"
"Hamako" has 10 stores throughout Kochi. The flagship store, adjacent to the tourist spot "Harimayabashi", has a teahouse "Suian" on the 4th floor and a rental art gallery on the 5th floor. In front of the store, there is a "Junshin Ouma face cutout panel" in reference to "Tosa Meika Kanzashi", so why not stop by and take a commemorative photo as a memento of your trip?
