Kochi Confectionery Shop with Over Seventy Years of History
Located beside the vivid vermilion "Harimaya Bridge," "Hamako Harimaya Main Store" is a Japanese and Western confectionery shop founded in 1952 that has created many well-known sweets, including "Tosa Meika Kanzashi" and "Shirobana Sendan." Inspired by the folk song "Yosakoi-bushi," which represents Kochi, "Tosa Meika Kanzashi" features white bean paste scented with yuzu wrapped in a madeleine-style batter and baked in foil, recognized as Japan’s first foil-baked confection and a representative specialty of Kochi. Through its confections, the shop shares the appeal of the local region while continuing to develop new products to convey Japan's seasonal sensibilities and contribute to Kochi.
Kochi’s Classic Souvenir "Tosa Meika Kanzashi"
Inspired by the love story of Junshin and Oma featured in the folk song "Yosakoi-bushi," this confection wraps white bean paste scented with Kochi's famous yuzu in a soft madeleine-style batter, then bakes it in foil. When the foil is opened, a hidden hairpin motif connected to the song appears. The sweet has become a representative specialty of Kochi.
Main Store Beside Landmark "Harimayabashi" in Kochi
With 10 locations across Kochi, "Hamako" operates its main store beside the sightseeing landmark "Harimaya Bridge." The fourth floor houses the tea room "Suian," while the fifth floor includes a rental gallery. At the storefront stands a "Junshin and Oma Face Cutout Panel" inspired by "Tosa Meika Kanzashi," creating a spot suited for a commemorative photo during a visit.
