A Valuable Historic Building Designed by Chuta Ito
The Keishoden Hall, which has been designated a nationally registered tangible cultural property, opened in 1923 (Taisho 12) as a treasure hall when Uesugi Shrine was rebuilt. It was designed by Ito Chuta, a professor emeritus at Tokyo Imperial University and a native of Yonezawa City, Yamagata. It is a representative early example of a fire-resistant concrete museum building.

The White Hood That Is the Symbol of Uesugi Kenshin
The white hood worn by Uesugi Kenshin, who fought in Buddhist regalia, is being restored for the first time in its 400-year history. It is scheduled to be opened to the public in 2028, the 450th anniversary of Kenshin's death, or in 2030, the 500th anniversary of his birth. Limited-Time Display of a Restored Cultural Heritage Helmet
From March 14 to July 7, 2026, Keishoden presents the special exhibition Spring–Early Summer Masterpieces: "The Attire of Uesugi Kenshin." From May 14 to June 23, featured works include the Yamagata Prefectural Cultural Property "Sugekake Mizu-Asagi Ito Odoshi Haramaki (a suit of armor laced with pale blue silk cords)," the Important Cultural Property Heart Sutra in "Gold Characters on Indigo Paper Handwritten by Emperor Go-Nara, and Sword," "Unsigned (Bungo Urumi)," an Important Cultural Property.
