A Beloved Local Fine Confectionery Known for Its Japanese and Western Sweets

With more than 80 years of history, this Japanese and Western confectionery shop offers sweets for both takeout and dine-in. The eat-in space provides a relaxed setting to enjoy the owner's specialties at your own pace. It is an inviting place to take a break and spend a little time over something sweet.

A Variety of Sweets Blending Tradition with Fresh Ideas

"Kasho Kineya," about a five-minute walk from JR Motomiya Station, creates a wide variety of sweets with well-being in mind, making each one by hand. The selection includes its specialty jo-namagashi (delicate traditional Japanese sweets), sweets baked in the shop's own oven, and baked goods that highlight the rich flavor of locally produced "Motomiya Silkie Eggs." The shop continues to experiment and refine its sweets in response to changing times and seasons, incorporating fresh ideas into traditional techniques. The owner's wife holds a "Master Tea Expert" qualification, and the popular "Guilt-Free Afternoon Tea Set" is available by reservation only.

The Award-Winning Favorite "Cheese Roppoyaki"

The specialty "Cheese Roppoyaki" is a cheese confection known for its pleasantly chewy texture. Three types of cream cheese are layered inside, while agar and locally produced "Motomiya Silkie Eggs" are used in the coating before each piece is baked. Its mild, approachable flavor makes it easy to enjoy even for those who are not especially fond of cheese. The refined, gentle taste has also earned recognition: at the "28th National Confectionery Exposition Hokkaido (Asahikawa Kashi-haku 2025)," it received the "Excellent Gold Confectionery Award." It was also served as a tea sweet when Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress visited Motomiya, Fukushima, making it one of the shop's representative confections.

"Oven-Fresh NAGURA Cream Puff with Fresh Custard Cream"

The "Oven-Fresh NAGURA Cream Puff with Fresh Custard Cream" is named for its resemblance to Mount Nagura in Motomiya, Fukushima Prefecture. The choux pastry shells are baked without filling, with the oven door kept slightly open during baking to allow air into the shells, creating a crisp exterior with a satisfying bite. The custard cream is added only after an order is placed, allowing customers to enjoy the pastry's fresh flavor and texture. Step inside the shop, and the sweet aroma of pastries baking in the large oven is sure to whet your appetite. This popular treat sometimes sells out, but customers can call ahead to have some set aside, so it's worth checking in advance.

Must-try signature dish

  • "UKOKKEI Egg"

These madeleines are made with generous amounts of rare "Motomiya Silkie Eggs" raised in Motomiya, Fukushima. The natural sweetness and refined aroma of maple sugar complement the eggs' mild flavor and richness. Each madeleine is baked in a rounded egg shape that resembles a real egg. Two small madeleines come in each package, making them well-suited as a gift.

  • "Adatara Highland Pear"

"Adatara Highland Pear" is a baked confection inspired by the highland scenery at the foot of Mount Adatara. The batter is generously filled with La France pears from Fukushima Prefecture, giving the cake a moist, juicy texture. Dainagon red beans are tucked inside to resemble pear seeds, adding a playful touch. Its refreshing sweetness also makes it especially good served chilled and sliced in summer.

This long-established wagashi shop has upheld its traditions and reputation since its founding. I was deeply impressed by how it continues to experiment and evolve with changing times and seasons while remaining committed to the quality of its sweets and the trust it has earned over the years. We also heard considerable praise from people at nearby restaurants in Motomiya, Fukushima Prefecture, for both the shop's sweets and the owner's skill, reflecting just how deeply loved and trusted it is throughout the local community. It is easy to understand why the shop has remained a longtime local favorite.
