Worshippers Gather for Prayers of Success and Triumph
Hirota Shrine, recorded in the ancient chronicle "Nihon Shoki," is said to have originated when Empress Jingu enshrined the fierce spirit of Amaterasu Omikami in the land of Hirota after victory in an overseas campaign following the founding of the nation. Revered for blessings related to prosperity, safe childbirth, career success, victory, and academic achievement, the expansive shrine grounds extend across approximately 53,000 square meters with views over Nishinomiya, Omaehama, and Osaka Bay. A longstanding tradition since the founding of the Hanshin Tigers sees players, managers, and coaches gather before the opening season to pray for victory. Numerous annual rituals and events continue to draw worshippers from across Japan throughout the year.
