Miyajima Misen Daihonzan Daishoin
The famous temple founded by Kobo Daishi with the deepest history in Miyajima
You can reach Daisho-in Temple on Miyajima, said to have been founded by Kobo Daishi in 806, by walking approximately 600 meters toward Mt. Misen from the exit of the worship route at Itsukushima Shrine. While visiting the temple, take your time to explore the historic buildings scattered across the temple grounds. Towering behind Daisho-in Temple is the "sacred mountain" Mt. Misen. It is said that Hirobumi Ito, Japan’s first Prime Minister, admired the view from the summit, remarking, "The true value of one of Japan's three scenic views lies in the view from the top." Be sure to set aside ample time to take in this spectacular scenery, which is one of the highlights of a visit to Daisho-in Temple.
