Open for breakfast, lunch, and café fare, this food court is a convenient stop for a break while sightseeing, at the start of a trip, or on the way home.

Shikoku's Flavors to Enjoy Anytime in a Casual Setting

Located on the first floor of "TAKAMATSU ORNE," directly connected to JR Takamatsu Station, "shikoku meguru kitchen" is a food court with about 80 seats that showcases Shikoku through "food." The varied menu includes Sanuki ramen, set meals, and rice bowls featuring local ingredients. Snacks and sweets purchased at the adjacent "shikoku meguru Marche" may also be eaten in the food court. With breakfast, lunch, café fare, and takeout available for different parts of the day, it is a convenient food stop before or after traveling around Shikoku.

Sanuki "Ramen" with Layered Umami from Seto Inland Sea Iriko, Chicken, and Pork

Sanuki ramen is a local style of ramen born from Kagawa Prefecture's udon culture. It is produced by "Sanuki Ramen Hamando®," a ramen shop that took first place in the inaugural Udon Grand Prix and applies techniques and ideas from udon making to ramen. The thick, flat noodles are made with domestically grown wheat and have a chewy bite and a smooth slurp. The broth combines the rich aroma and seafood umami of dried sardines from Ibukijima Island with the mellow richness of chicken and pork from Kagawa Prefecture. Why not try this new local ramen, created in hopes of becoming Kagawa's next specialty after Sanuki udon?

"Chicken Soup Set Meal"

Kagawa Prefecture is known for "Honetsukidori" (bone-in chicken), while "shikoku meguru kitchen" serves its original "Chicken Soup Set Meal (Kashiwa-jiru)." Each piece of chicken is prepped by hand, grilled first to bring out its savory aroma, and then slowly simmered. The broth is infused with chicken umami and packed with vegetables, mainly root vegetables such as carrots and daikon radish. A white miso base gives it a mild, nostalgic flavor, bringing chicken and vegetables together in one dish. This comforting, home-style meal is well suited to breakfast or lunch.

Must-try signature dish

  • "Honetsukidori (Bone-In Chicken)"

Kagawa Prefecture's representative local specialty, "Honetsukidori" (bone-in chicken), is made with tender young chicken. Grilled until fragrant, it has crisp skin and plump, juicy meat, with a savory flavor that deepens with each bite. Its bold seasoning pairs especially well with alcohol, while another way to enjoy it is to order onigiri and coat it in the chicken juices left on the plate after the meat is finished.

  • "Shirasu Rice Bowl (whitebait)"

"Shirasu Rice Bowl" is generously topped with whitebait caught in the Uwa Sea of Ehime Prefecture. The plump whitebait has a mild saltiness and savory flavor that deepens with each bite. The simplicity of the dish lets the flavor and texture of the shirasu stand out. An easy way to enjoy the bounty of Ehime's coastal waters, it works well for lunch during a trip or for a lighter meal.

From the Tabiiro Editorial Team

A major draw is the chance to pair Shikoku cuisine with products found at the adjacent market. I was particularly impressed by this new way of mixing and matching regional dishes and specialties. Even people who live in Shikoku may come across unfamiliar products, making a browse through the market a source of discoveries in itself. Directly connected to JR Takamatsu Station, it's a convenient place to visit along with the market when you're in Takamatsu for a trip or an event.
