Breathtaking Night Views and Dishes Prepared with Attention to Detail

A restaurant for a leisurely evening with views of Kumamoto's nightscape. Beyond the food, the scenery, setting, and time spent there are all part of the appeal. It provides a memorable setting for anniversaries, birthdays, proposals, and other special evenings with loved ones.

A Restaurant Offering Memorable Experiences for Special Occasions

Located on a hill in Hanaokayama, about a 5-minute drive from JR Kumamoto Station, this restaurant overlooks central Kumamoto. In a relaxed setting, it serves Western-style cuisine made mainly with ingredients from Kumamoto Prefecture and elsewhere in Kyushu, with an emphasis on ingredient selection and additive-free preparation. Sauces and dressings are made in-house, and close attention extends from the food to the hospitality. The restaurant is suited to birthdays, anniversaries, family celebrations, proposals, and other special occasions with loved ones.

Madeira sauce prepared with attention to detail

Toasted Aromas and Savory Beef in "Kumamoto Beef Filet Baked in Pastry"

Kumamoto beef fillet and a specially prepared filling are wrapped in authentic puff pastry with 730 layers, made over three days, then baked until crisp and golden. The light, flaky pastry highlights the full flavor of the beef. It is paired with a rich Madeira sauce made with Madeira wine, one of the world's three major fortified wines, produced on the Portuguese island of Madeira. The sauce's deep richness brings out the savory flavor of the beef fillet. The texture of the pastry, the flavor of the beef, the filling, and the rich Madeira sauce come together in a luxurious harmony.

  • 730 Layers of Craftsmanship Best Appreciated by Tasting

The puff pastry is specially made for "Matenro." Its appeal is best appreciated when tasted rather than seen in photographs. The cafe menu also includes dishes made with the pastry, offering a variety of flavors.

  • An Indulgent Harmony of Four Flavors

The pastry, meat, filling, and sauce are prepared to highlight their individual flavors while maintaining a balanced whole.

Plump white fish with a rich sauce

"White Fish with Mushroom Sauce"

The dish centers on sturgeon from Miyazaki Prefecture, along with selected fish from Kyushu such as red sea bream from Amakusa. Red sea bream is also incorporated into the fish mousse to bring out its natural flavor. Colorful, elegant plating makes it one of the most visually striking dishes on the course. The baked white fish is paired with a house-made sauce that concentrates the rich aroma and umami of mushrooms. The delicate fish and deeply savory sauce create a flavorful balance, with selected ingredients and a sauce prepared specifically for this restaurant.

Must-try signature dish

  • "British Gentleman's Melt-in-the-Mouth Cheesecake"

Based on a traditional British recipe and recreated with Japanese ingredients, this cheesecake has been a longtime favorite at the restaurant. Each one is baked to order and served fresh, with a smooth, melting texture. Its timeless flavor has remained unchanged over the years.

  • "Rice Tart"

Made with rice and wheat flour from Kumamoto Prefecture, this tart is baked to highlight the natural flavors of its ingredients. Less sugar is used, while cinnamon brings out the rice's gentle sweetness and aroma. Its distinctive texture is reminiscent of freshly cooked rice. Because the flavor can change easily, the tart is served only after checking its condition and is available both for dining in and takeout.
