A Long-Established Restaurant in Tanba Sasayama, Said to Be the Birthplace of Wild Boar Hotpot
"Tanbasasayama Kinmata" is a long-established inn and restaurant that was founded in 1609 in Tanba Sasayama City, Hyogo Prefecture, which once flourished as the castle town of Sasayama Castle. This famous inn has been in business for over 400 years and was visited by Katsura Kogoro (later known as Kido Takayoshi), who was active from the end of the Edo period to the Meiji period. You can stay just for meals, and they offer dishes such as boar hotpot, which is wild boar meat presented like a peony flower, boar shabu-shabu served with kelp and bonito broth depending on the season, and kaiseki cuisine using game such as Asiatic black bear and pheasant, as well as high-quality "Kobe beef". Many people, not only from the local area but from all over the country, return repeatedly to try the famous boar hotpot.

Wild Boar Meat Raised on the Bounty of the Sasayama Mountains
The wild boar hotpot is made with high-quality wild boar loin. The boar meat, which has fat that becomes softer the more it is cooked with vegetables, is slowly simmered in a special miso-flavored broth, creating a refined flavor. To finish the meal, you can enjoy a bowl of rice topped with a half-boiled egg in the broth infused with the flavor of the wild boar.

A Ryokan Offering the Charm and History of a Castle Town
The building, originally a ryokan called "Omiya," has been renovated to suit modern times while maintaining its historical roots. The staircase and ceiling in the entrance hall remain unchanged since the inn first opened. In the lobby, you can find displays of Tamba-yaki and Ochiyama-yaki pottery collected by successive owners, offering a glimpse into the history of Tamba Sasayama through both the food and the building itself.
