Enjoy the Traditions and Local Cuisine in the City of Hida Takayama
Located in Hida Takayama City, Gifu, this restaurant is a traditional establishment founded in the 1900s in a townhouse that is over 100 years old. The fourth-generation owner developed the idea for the "Hida Beef Nigiri Sushi," grilled Hida beef sushi served on shrimp crackers. You can enjoy your meal in a space that makes you feel like you've traveled back to the Edo period, or you can savor your meal while strolling through the old streets. The restaurant also offers high-grade steaks where you can fully enjoy Hida beef, various rice bowls, "Hida beef curry rice," "Hida beef soba," and Gifu's local cuisine, which is grilled on a magnolia leaf with homemade koji miso. Enjoy the flavors of Hida Takayama at the venerable "Sakaguchiya."

Stroll Through Town with "Sakaguchiya’s" Hida Beef Nigiri Sushi
Originally operating as an inn, the fourth-generation owner of Sakaguchiya shifted the business focus over time, first opening a sweet shop, then evolving into a full-fledged restaurant. Drawing inspiration from the traditional Edomae sushi stalls, the owner created the "Hida Beef Nigiri Sushi" so people could casually enjoy this local delicacy while strolling through town. Don’t miss the chance to savor the unique flavor of "Sakaguchiya" signature dish!

Savor the Authentic Tastes of Hida Takayama Amidst the Takayama Festival
Stepping inside the shop, marked by a Karakuri doll, you will find antique tools and furnishings on display, such as telephones from the time of telephone operators and snake-eye umbrellas. Behind them, in a storehouse built when the shop was an inn, there are displays of models of Takayama Festival floats, actual costumes, and Karakuri dolls that you can try operating.
