A Seafood Restaurant Known for Its Live Squid
Located about 25 minutes by car from JR Karatsu Station, the seafood restaurant "Osakanadokoro Genkai" was founded in 1969 and stands right by the Genkai Sea. It offers a variety of dishes, including live squid sashimi from Yobuko, Saga Prefecture, as well as fresh fish from Genkai Sea and the Goto Islands. The restaurant is beloved by locals and tourists alike for maintaining its authentic flavors over the years. Inside, the presence of large and small aquariums creates a captivating atmosphere, reminiscent of a marine park. Fresh seawater from the Genkai Sea ensures the aquariums maintain pristine conditions. The restaurant also features a large parking lot suitable for buses, making it an excellent stop when visiting Yobuko.

“Fish Kaiseki” Using Freshly Cut Squid

Fresh squid is selected and prepared to order from the restaurant's live tanks. Depending on the season, it may feature spear squid, bigfin reef squid, or cuttlefish, each offering unique textures and flavors. The squid can be enjoyed as tempura, grilled, simmered, or sashimi.

Because it is located in a place surrounded by the Genkai Sea and nature, you can enjoy your meal while looking out at the spectacular view of Yobuko Ohashi Bridge. Inside the store, there are cages where squid and other seafood from the Goto Islands swim happily, creating an aquarium - like atmosphere.
