A Japanese Restaurant Serving Eel in a Taisho-Era Setting
Founded in 1914, "Seifutei" is a beloved Japanese restaurant specializing in eel dishes. Its signature dish is "Grilled eel," made with a secret sauce that has been preserved since the restaurant opened. The eel is split open along the back in the Kanto style and grilled in the Kansai style without steaming until golden brown and fragrant, a method unique to the Nabari region, where the cultures of Kanto and Kansai blend together. Another specialty dish is "Koikoku (carp stewed in miso)." The carp is simmered for a week to remove the mud, resulting in a mellow flavor with no unpleasant odor. Enjoy a leisurely meal in a calm Japanese space that retains the atmosphere of the restaurant's days as a traditional inn, while taking in the view of the Nabari-gawa River.
Nabari's Famous "Akame 48 Waterfalls"
"Akame Shijuhachitaki," a series of falls located upstream of the Taki-gawa River that flows between Iga and Yamato, is a tourist attraction in Nabari. Numerous waterfalls create a work of art from nature. After viewing the natural beauty of Nabari, we recommend enjoying a kaiseki meal featuring eel and river fish dishes at Seifutei. The river view from inside the restaurant is also very picturesque.
A Serene Japanese-Inspired Setting
The charm of this restaurant is its relaxing and calming atmosphere, reminiscent of a traditional Japanese inn. The second floor also has a tatami room that can accommodate up to 20 people, and is often used for New Year's and year-end parties. It is also close to the site of Edogawa Ranpo's birthplace, and Ranpo himself is said to have visited the restaurant often in his later years and enjoyed eating the restaurant's famous "Koikoku (carp soup)."
