A 100-Year-Old Kyoto Townhouse Renovated Into a Hotel
This modern Japanese hotel was renovated from a Kyoto townhouse. The building is about 100 years old. It has large doors on the first floor that are barrier-free and wheelchair accessible. Pets are also allowed, making it a popular and easy-to-use accommodation. The spacious living room has an open ceiling and an island kitchen equipped with cooking utensils, so you can cook while chatting. There is one bedroom on the first floor and two on the second floor, and towels and other carefully selected amenities are provided.

Guest Room

A Stunning Facility with a Water-Inspired Design

Water transportation has been popular in Kyoto since ancient times, and there are still many beautiful water places in the city. Using these as a motif, a first-class architect and a performance artist have designed a Tsukubai, a bridge connecting rooms, and sliding doors depicting water.

Open-Air Living Room

The open space is an open ceiling from the living room to the attic. An island kitchen is in the center, so everyone can cook ingredients they bought nearby while chatting. The building feels more spacious than a traditional townhouse.

A Small Garden That Lets in Light and Wind

One of the characteristics of a Kyoto townhouse is the small garden, which brings light and air into the building. The space is also used as a tea room, and there is a tsukubai (bathroom) in the center that can also be used as a table. The veranda surrounds it, giving it a wabi-sabi feel.

1st Floor: Bedroom/Western-Style Room

The room features a wall with a "reverse lattice" design created by first-class architect Sadayoshi Mino. The soft light that shines through the lattice creates a tranquil and soothing atmosphere. The room has two single beds and a wooden floor, so you can relax and get a good night's sleep.

2nd floor: Bedroom, Japanese-style room, Western-style room

The Japanese-style room is fitted with two futons and has Ryukyu tatami mats, and when you open the sliding doors you can enjoy the open ceiling. The Western-style room has three single beds, and the corridor connecting the rooms is designed to resemble a bridge over a river in Kyoto. The folding screens are beautiful and change with the seasons.

Facility

Enjoy a “Sencha” Tea Ceremony with a German Hostess

You can enjoy the "Sencha Experience" in a small garden that resembles an open tea room. The German hostess, who loves Kyoto culture and traditional performing arts, will demonstrate the "Encha Mitsukazari" (three-way tea ceremony), the formal way of making tea in the Obaku-baisha school of Sencha tea ceremony. Up to five people who make a reservation in advance for consecutive nights can participate, and viewing is free.

Enjoy High-Quality Gyokuro Tea and Sweets From a Long-Established Japanese Confectionery Shop

The tea served will be high-quality Gyokuro, which is not often used daily, so you should definitely try it on this occasion. The sweets served with tea will come from a long-established Japanese sweets shop in Kyoto City, so you can experience the four seasons of Japan through the sweets. Enjoy Japanese culture in a Japanese space.

Carefully Selected Amenities

Amenities are also plentiful, including shampoo, conditioner, body soap, hand sanitizer, indoor slippers, towels, hair dryers, etc. The living room is also equipped with a kitchen and cooking utensils.

Location

Easy Access to Tourist Spots

The inn is just a 2-minute walk from Nishioji-Sanjo Station on the Keifuku Electric Railroad (Randen), which runs to the popular Arashiyama area. It is also easily accessible to Kinkaku-ji Temple, Nijo Castle, the Kawaramachi area, Gion, Yasaka Shrine, Otowayama Kiyomizu-dera Temple, and many other tourist spots, so why not take a look around?

Convenient Surroundings for Shopping

There are supermarkets, convenience stores, drug stores, 100-yen shops, etc. nearby, so shopping is convenient. You can also purchase ingredients and cook them in the inn's kitchen, so you can enjoy tasting the local seasonal ingredients. There is also a rental car office nearby.
