This Ryokan (inn) takes pride in its cuisine, offering generous servings of "Tsuruga fugu" and "Tsuruga red sea bream"—local specialties of Fukui Prefecture. As the fish are farmed in-house, guests can enjoy these premium ingredients at reasonable prices throughout the year. The farm is located along a ria coastline where the Sea of Japan’s waves are calm and the seawater temperature remains low—ideal conditions for raising fish with firm flesh and rich flavor. With around 35 years of experience in fugu cuisine, the inn offers not only sashimi in its course meals, but also unique dishes such as "Fugu Gyoza"—sure to leave a lasting impression.

Relax in a Relaxing Japanese-Style Room

All 10 guest rooms are Japanese-style, with tatami mats for relaxation. The rooms come in three sizes: 14 tatami mats, 7.5 tatami mats, and six tatami mats, and are equipped with air conditioning, heating, televisions, hairdryers, face towels, etc. You can relax and unwind in the sound of the waves.

“Tsuruga Red Sea Bream” Full Course

"Tsuruga Red Sea Bream" is raised in the low water temperature of Tsuruga Bay. It is well-fattened and has excellent texture due to its firm flesh from abundant exercise. Raised on nutritious feed such as crab shells, the bright red flesh, and strong umami flavor can be enjoyed in various dishes.

The hostess is proud of her catered lunches, made with fresh local fish. For groups of five or more, they can be ordered three days in advance. Beautiful Scenery You Can Encounter on Your Journey

The waters of Tsuruga Bay are highly transparent, and the beautiful white sand of Tenoura Beach, which is designated as part of the Wakasa Bay Quasi-National Park, is also popular. In summer, the color of the sea is vivid, and it shows various expressions as the time of day changes. Enjoy the magnificent sky and ocean in front of the inn.

Tsuruga Bay stretches before you, and Tenoura Beach is just a short walk away. You might also want to visit Mizushima, a small uninhabited island at the tip of the Tsuruga Peninsula that can only be reached by tourist boat in the summer. The pier at Irohama/Urasoko, where the ship to the island departs, is about a five-minute drive away.

Akebono Ryokan's specialty activity is the "Fishing Raft Akebono." You can fish on a raft with a hut floating on the sea or a small boat called a "kase." You can lose track of time as you enjoy fishing with a simple setup while gazing at the ocean.
