This long-established inn is located in Jigoku Onsen, a beloved hot spring that has been around for over 200 years since the Edo period. Even after the 2016 Kumamoto earthquake, the hot continued to bubble up, the damaged buildings were renovated, and the inn was reborn as a place that promotedromotes a new hot spring therapy culture in line with the changing times. Modern hot spring therapy, where soaking in the hot springs allows you to become one with nature and relieve your daily fatigue, is said to "lead you to live life as you are." Experience the natural beauty of the Aso region as you visit the three hot springs - Suzume no Yu, Tamago no Yu, and Moto no Yu - and enjoy a refreshing bath in the naturally gushing hot springs.

Guest Room

The Main Building: A Fusion of Modernity and History

"Honkan (main building)" has a total of ten guest rooms. Built in the mid-Meiji era, it was reborn after being damaged in the Kumamoto earthquake and landslides, and has been restored by combining old and new elements. The space combines the atmosphere of traditional wooden architecture, such as the verandas and pillars, with modern comfort.

"Hanare (Annex)" Where You Can Spend Time Just for Yourself

A short walk away, three "Hanare (annex)" on a hill. The windows connecting the guest rooms to the veranda are fully retractable, allowing guests to enjoy the magnificent views of the Aso region from the spacious rooms. A private garden is in front of the veranda, creating a private space rich in nature.

Enjoy the Semi-open-Air Bath in the "Hanare (Annex)" with Free-Flowing Hot Spring Water

Each "Hanare (annex)" features a semi-open-air bath with hot spring water flowing directly from the source. Guests can immerse themselves at any time, savouring the bliss of bathing while admiring the sunset over the Somma crater or gazing at the star-filled night sky.

Spa

"Suzume no Yu" - a Miraculous Hot Spring

This rare hot spring, with the source gushing out from beneath your feet, is a semi-open-air bath where everyone can bathe together wearing bathing suits. This allows everyone to enjoy the beneficial effects of the sulfurous components and hydrogen sulfide gas. The indoor bath and changing rooms are separate for men and women, and you can relax in the bath with family and friends.

"Tamago no Yu" with a Spectacular View

The modern hot springs are located at the highest point of the Aso caldera, and parts of the open-air bath that escaped damage in the Kumamoto earthquake still remain. The water has a uniquely Japanese spring quality, a high sterilizing effect, and is said to be good for atopic dermatitis, so you can relax while taking in the spectacular view.

"Moto no Yu", a Hot Spring with a Sense of History

The bathhouse, with its large beams, was restored by excavating a stone bathtub buried in a mudslide, and the hot spring water is kept at the right temperature in a storage tank and poured into it. It is a comfortable space that evokes the good old days, and the men's and women's baths are alternated at certain times, only when used by guests staying at the hotel.

Cuisine

"Seasonal Hot Pot Course" with Special Attention to Broth

The course menu, which focuses on hot pot, offers delicious seasonal dishes such as wild boar, duck, and venison shabu-shabu hot pot. The broth is carefully selected to bring out the flavor of each dish, and the restaurant strives to create an exceptional finish that will allow you to experience the unique local flavors.

Original Cuisine "Yamakudo Course"

This popular course meal is grilled over charcoal. Using ingredients unique to the Aso region and rare cuts of "Kumamoto Akaushi beef", the restaurant offers original dishes incorporating French elements into their cooking methods and seasonings. "Kamadogohan (rice cooked in a traditional hearth)" is another highlight.

The Head Chef’s Craft in the "Seasonal Kaiseki Course"

The kaiseki cuisine at the private dining room "Asotsumi" is prepared with care, each dish crafted by a head chef who trained at a three-star restaurant in Kyoto. The course, served over two to three hours, features exquisite pairings of tableware and cuisine, creating a dining experience to be long remembered.

A Special Lineup of "Aso Breakfast"

The breakfast served at the restaurant "Yamakudo" is a delightful menu of freshly cooked "kamadogohan (rice cooked in a traditional hearth)" made with seasonal local ingredients grilled over a charcoal fire. After the meal, the chef will also grill "special French toast" over the charcoal fire for you to enjoy.
