A Prestigious and Solemn Shrine Dedicated to Sugawara no Michizane

"Sugawara Shrine" is located approximately a 3-minute walk from the Okoji stop on the Hankai Electric Tramway. Founded in 997, the shrine enshrines "Sugawara no Michizane," the god of learning, culture, and warding off evil spirits. It is said to bring blessings for academic success and is crowded with visitors during exam season. The area is lush with greenery, and highlights include the "Zuishinmon Gate," designated as a tangible cultural property by Osaka, and the tea room "Kobaiken." The "firefly viewing party" held every June is an early summer tradition.
