A shrine dedicated to the spirits of heroes from Ibaraki Prefecture

Ibaraki Gokoku Shrine, located on Mt. Sakurayama, one of the most famous spots for cherry blossoms in Mito City, Ibaraki Prefecture, is a shrine that enshrines approximately 60,000 spirits of the many war dead spirits from Ibaraki Prefecture from the end of the Edo period. It was founded out of a combination of respect and respect. The lush green grounds are recommended for a stroll, as there are many requiems and cenotaphs praying for peace and prosperity. After visiting the shrine, I would also like to receive a goshuin stamp. Adjacent to Kairakuen, one of Japan's three major gardens, you can enjoy nature in each season, with beautiful plum blossoms and cherry blossoms in early spring and autumn leaves in fall. The votive fireworks held every August have become a summer tradition.

A Seasonal Japanese Paper Stamp

In addition to the usual goshuin stamps, the awarding office sells New Year stamps, cherry blossoms, hydrangeas, and chrysanthemums made with Nishi-no-uchi paper, which is designated as an intangible cultural property by Ibaraki and is difficult to tear even when soaked in water. They are distributing seasonal goshuin stamps with a picture of the "goshuin" (details on the website).

"Dedicatory Fireworks" to Pray for Peace and Comfort

Every year on August 15th, Ibaraki Gokoku Shrine holds a "Dedication Fireworks" event, in which magnificent large fireworks are set off over Mt.Sakurayama, with prayers for the peace of spirits, world peace, and the eradication of epidemics. It is crowded with many worshipers and tourists as it is used as an okuribi to decorate the night of Obon. It has become a tradition that concludes the summer in Mito.
